Roger N. Moravek, 81, of 281 Windsor Drive NE in Cedar Rapids, died Friday, January 9, 2009, at home, following a brief illness. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Rose Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsville.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Violet and sister-in-law, Joan Moravek of Mechanicsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Clara Svatos; and his brother, Russell Moravek.
Roger was born May 11, 1927, the son of George and Alma (Crock) Moravek in rural Cedar County. He graduated from Tipton High School in 1945. On September 30, 1950, he married Violet Walshire in Lisbon. Roger worked as a technician for Rockwell Collins, retiring in 1958. He also farmed for many years in the Tipton area.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. He was an avid Ham Radio Operator and enjoyed many hobbies, including woodworking and stone polishing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion or Camp Courageous in Roger’s memory.
