Roger A. Galvin, 70, of 1421 Miami Drive N.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, February 26, 2007, in his home following a long illness. Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, First Christian Church, 840 3rd Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa by Rev. Fred Darbonne. Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine, Iowa, with military honors.
Roger and his wife Marilyn were the parents of six children, Deb Waterbeck of Tama, Terry (Penny) of Palo, Tony (Colleen) of Swisher, Sean (Julene) of Norfolk, VA, Tracy (John) Alden of Belle Plaine, and Shelly (Jerry) Hathcock of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving is one sister, Helen Willfong of Belle Plaine; one brother, Jon (Alice) Galvin of Cedar Rapids; and his wife, Kay.
Roger loved to tell people that he and Kay, between the two of them, had 10 children; 23 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Phillip and Lyle; and his wife, Marilyn.
Roger was born in Marcus, Iowa on January 7, 1937, to Walter and Esther (Miller) Galvin. Roger and his wife Kay were married on October 4, 2003 in Cedar Rapids. Roger was employed by PerMar Security Systems.
He was a member and Elder of First Christian Church. Roger was in the U.S. Army Rangers and served in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. He loved his country dearly. Roger was blessed with the gift of creating beautiful poetry that he shared with his church, friends and family.

He had a wonderful sense of humor that he would share with his friends and anyone he would meet. Such a giving, loving man - he will always be remembered.
