Roe Jean Simonson, 88, of 107 Mitchell Street SW, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Russellville, Arkansas, died Tuesday, August 9, 2005, in Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids, after a lengthy illness. Services: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 11, 2005, at Church of the King, 3750 F Avenue N.W., Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Don Glazier. Burial: Antioch Cemetery in rural Anamosa. Visitation: 10:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church.
Survivors include her husband, Howard; two sons, Terry (Cecelia) Edwards of Hiawatha and Jon Paul Edwards of Subic, Zambales, Phillipines; two daughters, Betty (Wendell) Kenney of Thompson Falls, Montana and Mary Lee (Gilbert) Boxa of Cedar Rapids,
Also surviving are eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Robert Edwards; a daughter, Karen Caspers; a grandson, William Boxa; and a sister Alice Coppess.
Roe Jean was born the daughter of Earl and Sadie (Hughes) Coppess on November 28, 1916 in Olin, Iowa. She married Howard Simonson on November 15, 1970 in Aiken, Minnesota. She was a homemaker, a member of the Church of the King, and previously was involved with the Olin EUB WSWS, Midland Homemakers Club and Russellville Quilting Group.
