Rodney L. Solberg, 61, of Urbana, Iowa, formerly of Independence, died Sunday, June 26, 2016, at the Hospice of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Oak Grove Church, Shellsburg, Iowa, conducted by Pastor Steve Watson. Visitation: 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, Iowa, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Burial at later date in Rowley Cemetery, Rowley, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Wilda Solberg of Urbana, Iowa; mother, LaVonne Solberg of Urbana, Iowa; children, Bridgett (Travis) Burau of Rockwall, Texas, and Ben Solberg of Shellsburg, Iowa; grandchildren, Max and Lizzie Burau, and Makena and Destin Solberg; brother, Brett T. Solberg of Vinton, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, David; sister, Carmen Sherman; brother, Curtis Solberg; and nephew, Jacob Solberg.
Rodney was born on May 26, 1955, in Independence, Iowa, son of David and LaVonne (LaTour) Solberg. He graduated from Independence High School in 1973, and then went to Kirkwood Community College and Mt. Mercy University. Rodney served in the United States Army from 1974-1976. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #6, Marion, and former Masonic Lodge, Independence, where he was a Past Master of both lodges, and El Kahir Shrine, Cedar Rapids, where he was a Potentate in 2006. Rodney worked for Intermec and then built homes with Steve Gee Construction. He enjoyed carpentry, scuba diving, hunting, fishing, kayaking, boating, camping, skiing (water and snow), and golfing. Rodney loved visiting Hawaii.
