Rodney B. “Moon” Herman of Manchester died Friday, November 14, 2008 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque following a short illness.
A private family Memorial Services will be Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, Iowa by Rev. John Flaherty. Family will greet friends from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 17, 2008 at the funeral home. Scattering of remains will be at a later date.
Rodney was born March 6, 1943 in Earlville, Iowa, the son of Loren and Sarah (Shaw) Herman. He attended school in Earlville. Joining the service in 1963, Rodney served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was united in marriage to Carol Ann Hansel on April 18, 1970 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg. Following discharge from the service, he worked for John Deere in Dubuque.
Rodney enjoyed carpenter work, was a gun collector, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Carol Herman; two sons, Tony Herman of Manchester and Robert (Angie) Herman of Seattle, Washington; one grandson, Alexander Ley Herman; six sisters, Phyllis (John) Thibadeau of Manchester, Virginia (Merlin) Boll of Strawberry Point, and Janice (Everett) Klaus of Colesburg, Nancy Herman of Earlville, Mary Jacqueline (Eugene) Troester of Guttenberg, Paulette (John) Muller of Dubuque; and two brothers, Vincent (Betty) Herman of Earlville, and Larry (Karen) Herman of Cedar Rapids; and his mother-in-law, Rose Hansel of Petersburg.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Sarah Herman; a sister and her husband, Donna and Dale Harris; his father-in-law, Carl Hansel; and a brother-in-law, Eugene Troester.
