Rodney A. Bounds, 58, formally of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, February 24, 2013 in Indianapolis, Indiana, after a courageous battle with cancer. Surrounded by his father, wife, children and brother he lovingly proclaimed “I fought this cancer with all that I had. I never gave in and my wife and family never gave up on me.” Memorial Services: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Oakhill Jackson Community Church Cedar Rapids, conducted by Pastor Rodrick Dooley. Inurnment will be in Oakhill Cemetery at a later date.
Rodney moved to Cedar Rapids to be close to his dad, sisters and brothers. After receiving his welding certificate from Kirkwood Community College, he went to work for Midland Forge. After a layoff Rodney worked for Farmstead (formally known as Wilson Meatpacking) until it closed. Rodney and Angela moved back to Indianapolis in 1999 and he worked for Bre-hop Nursery for 8 years before becoming ill.
Rodney was the eldest son of George W. Bounds and Edith D. (Wingo) Clay. He is survived by his wife, Angela of Indianapolis, Indiana; two children, Stephanie Denise Bounds of Dallas, TX and Anthonie Michael Bounds of Tulsa, OK; three grandchildren, Miya Marie Bounds, Mehki Anthonie Bounds and Sierra Javonn Benson; sisters, Linda (Ed) Topinka, Lynn Bounds, Crystal Bounds all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ruby (Bill) Boswell of Peoria, Illinois, Valerie Stookey of St Paul, Minnesota, Gwen Jackson (Doug), Penny Hayes both of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Cynthia Bounds of Sacramento, CA; and brothers, George (Brenda) Bounds, Richard Bounds both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Bradley Bounds of Las Vegas, NV, Randy (Nita) Bounds of Glendale, CA. Rodney leaves a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and In-laws whom he loved and cherished and knew they loved him too.
Rodney was preceded in death by his mother, Edith; mother-in-law, Diane; step-mother, Marilyn; grandparents; and two special nephews, Michael and Rodney.
