Roberta L. Sholes, 85, of 105 State Street, Center Point, Iowa, died Saturday, April 28, 2007, in St. Luke?s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 2, 2007, in First Christian Church, Center Point, by the Rev. John Caughron. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home, Center Point. Burial: Center Point Cemetery.
Survivors include her sons, Mark Sholes of Butte, Montana, Jon (Donna) Sholes of Center Point and Bruce (Jeanette) Sholes of Walker; eight grandchildren, Aaron, Jason, Darren, Kevin, Alan, Bradley, Trevor and Laura; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Andersen of Plano, Texas and Emilie (Dan) Slaymaker of Center Point; one brother, Richard (Virginia) Haars of Lake Worth, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents; and a brother, Bernard who died at a young age.
Roberta was born September 25, 1921, near Troy Mills, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick and Doris (Elliott) Haars. She graduated from Center Point High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College. On June 9, 1941, she married Jack Sholes in Marion, Iowa. He died April 15, 1990.
Roberta taught in a one room school house, was a homemaker, a substitute teacher and did the books for the family business.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Center Point, served on the Library Board and Senior Housing Board, and was a member of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary Dye Benion Post # 297.
Roberta enjoyed crafts, reading, word games and volunteering at school as a reader.
A memorial fund has been established in Roberta?s memory.
