Roberta May-Ree Bare, 86, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Marion, died Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Elim Home in Princeton, MN. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2011, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Del Bear. Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial: Spencer’s Grove Cemetery, Walker. Military Honors: Marion American Legion Post #298.
Survivors include her children, Carl (Teresa) Bare of Galt, CA, Rebecca (Lorence) Thomsen of Princeton, MN, and Barbara (Raymond) Taber of Cedar Rapids; 8 grandchildren, Jason, Carla, and Michael Bare, Trevor (Michelle) Perrin, Stephanie (Peter) Martin, Phillip (Brenna) Perrin, Anastasia (John) Davis, and Raymond C. (Megan Jo) Taber; and 3 great-grandchildren, Brittni, Taylor, and Axel.
She was preceded in death by her husband George; parents; 2 brothers; and a sister.
Roberta was born November 3, 1924, in Marion, the daughter of George D. and Fretta M. (Hessner) Eckhart. She served in the United States Coast Guard during WWII. On February 24, 1951, Roberta was united in marriage to George W. Bare in Marion. He died April 16, 2009. Roberta worked as a cashier at an automobile dealership for many years. She was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Marion American Legion Post #298, DAU Auxiliary, W.I.B.C., and the Midwest Antique Gas Engine and Tractor Association.
