Robert L. Umbdenstock, 83, of Vinton, died Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at home. Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2011, at Murdoch Funeral Home in Center Point by Chaplain Bobbie Dickerson. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Urbana Cemetery, Urbana, Iowa with military rites.
Survivors include his wife, Marion; his son, Gary Umbdenstock (Jane Carson); four grandchildren, Chris (Roxanne) Umbdenstock, Angie (Brent) McDonald, Amber (Mike) Fry, and Andy “A.J.” (friend, Heather) Umbdenstock; five great-grandchildren, Madi and Brayden McDonald, Kolby Fry, and Tyler and Dylan Umbdenstock; former daughters-in-law, Debbie Kova and LaNiece Sharpling; three nephews, Mike (Susan) Umbdenstock, Dennis (Janet) Umbdenstock, and David (Teresa) Umbdenstock; two nieces, Connie (Larry) Warnell and Deana (Chuck) Powers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Douglas Umbdenstock; and two brothers, George (Ruby) Umbdenstock and Dean (Clairice) Umbdenstock.
Robert was born October 7, 1927, the son of Milo and Frances (Noska) Umbdenstock in Toddville. He attended school in Toddville and helped on the farm. Robert served with the U.S. Army from 1946-1947 with occupational forces in Germany. Upon his discharge, Robert worked for Linkbelt Speeder for a time. On June 11, 1949, he married Marion Elizabeth Stoll at the First Baptist Church in Marion. Then he helped farm in Oxford and Mt. Pleasant. In 1958 they moved to their farm east of Vinton. Robert later worked for Allis Challmers/P & H Crane, retiring after 23 years.
