Robert Lee Toomer

Robert L. Toomer, 87, a lifetime resident of Delhi, Iowa, died at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, Iowa on Thursday, August 9, 2012.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am, Monday, August 13, 2012, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Delhi, Iowa. Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 pm Sunday, August 12, 2012, at Bohnenkamp - Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, Iowa, with a 5:00 p.m. Scripture Service. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial: St. John Cemetery, Delhi, Iowa with military honors.
Robert was born April 30, 1925, the son of William A. and Theresa M. (Hess) Toomer. He was united in marriage to Jeanette E. Bruggeman on November 20, 1950. She died December 17, 1955.
Following graduation from Delhi High School, Robert served during WWII with the United States Army. Then he owned and operated Bob’s Standard in Delhi; later worked as a car salesman at Wallace Pontiac and Nall Chevrolet in Manchester. He later became Postmaster for over 20 years in Delhi. Bob enjoyed wintering in Tuscon, Arizona after retiring.
Robert is survived by three children; Pamela K. (Edward L.) Anderson of St. James City, FL., Kathleen J. (Charles E.) Nygren of Cedar Falls and Randall L. (Tamara R.) Toomer of Manchester; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jeanette; brothers, Charles and Francis Toomer.
