Robert L. Skvor, 64, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, May 15, 2009, in his home. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at St. Ludmila’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Tom McDermott. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a Vigil service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors by VFW Post 788.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; two aunts, Sr. Christine Elias, ND of Omaha, Nebraska and Helen Unzeitig of Cedar Rapids; two nieces, Rebecca and Robin of Reedley, California; and a brother-in-law, Chuck Rodriguez of Reedley, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George; and a sister, Barbara Rodriguez.
Bob was born January 21, 1945, the son of George and Hattie (Elias) Skvor, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A graduate of Jefferson High School, he served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On January 20, 1979, Bob was united in marriage to Betty Yanecek at St. Ludmila’s Catholic Church. He worked at Aegon, retiring in 2007.
Bob was a member of St. Ludmila’s Catholic Church, Moose Lodge #304, Elks Lodge #251, American Legion Post 298 and a life-member of VFW Post 788, where he currently was serving as Commander and was a member of the VFW Funeral Detail. He also served on the Board of Directors at the Wildcat Golf Course.
In 2005, Bob was inducted into the Cedar Rapids Bowling Hall of Fame. Although not bowling for several years, his love of the game kept him involved by running the “1900” tournament for 30 years. Bob also enjoyed golfing, camping and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Ludmila’s Catholic Church or the charity of your choice in memory of Bob.
