Robert Francis Sharpe, 72, of Central City, died Sunday, July 6, 2014, at his home due to complications from an inoperable brain tumor. The family will hold a Celebration of Life for Robert from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2014, at the AmVets in Central City.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; mother, Gwen Sharpe; step-son, David (Kim) Friederich; two brothers, James (Jan Dake) Sharpe, and Gary Sharpe; two sisters, Karen (Bob) Mercer, and Leslie (Mark) Becicka; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth; brother, Ricky (lost in childhood); and nephew, Jimmy Sharpe.
Robert was born June 21, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Kenneth and Gwen (Coon) Sharpe. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. After waiting for forty years, Robert married the love of his life, Nancy Svoboda on November 23, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg. He worked as an IEEE Electrical Engineer with Rockwell Collins for 37 years. Robert was a member of the Otter Creek Gun Club, and held several offices with the Central City AmVets where he enjoyed trap shooting and playing pool. Robert liked racing cars and riding his motorcycle and snowmobile. He loved deer hunting and fishing. Robert was always willing to help out a friend.
