Robert Lee Sanders

Robert Lee Sanders, 79, of Westminster, California, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, September 15, 2008, in his home, following a short illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker, Iowa, by the Rev. Mike Ellson. The family will greet friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home. Burial: Spencer’s Grove Cemetery, Walker, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Vena; a special niece, Dominique Concepcion of Long Beach, California; two brothers, Ray Rogers and John Rogers, both of Arizona; two sisters, Judy Rogers of Arizona and Kay Bohstedt of Washington; a sister-in-law, Lula Perkov of St. Peters, Missouri; niece, Vena (John) Stevens of St. Charles, Missouri; and three grand-nieces, Amy, Megan and Paige Stevens.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Robert was born October 25, 1928, the son of Vachel and Iva (Crofoot) Sanders, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. On February 25, 1952, he was united in marriage to Vena Osborn in Walker, Iowa. Robert served in the United States Air Force for 21 years, retiring as Master Sergeant. He served his country in the United States, Japan, Germany and Korea.
Robert enjoyed golfing, raising roses and leather tooling. He was a member of the Shriners, Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star.
