Robert Burton Rutherford
July 2, 1924 — December 2, 2006
Robert Burton Rutherford, 82, of 4310 Indian Creek Rd., died Saturday, December 2, 2006, at Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion, following a lingering illness. Memorial Services: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at St. Paul?s United Methodist Church Chapel in Cedar Rapids by Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. The family will greet friends at 9:30 at the church.
Survivors include his wife Betty of Marion; two sons, Robert E. Rutherford and John L. Rutherford, both of Marion; a daughter, Nancy Allen of Bloomington, Illinois; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Eunice.
Robert was born July 2, 1924, the son of F. Guy and Mae (Ashley) Rutherford near Cresco. He graduated from Coe College in 1949. Robert served with the U.S. Army during WWII as an anti-aircraft gunner. On June 16, 1951, he married Betty Wolfe at St. Paul?s United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Before retiring Robert worked at Rockwell Collins for thirty-seven years as an International Documentation specialist.
