Robert Howard Church, 64, of LeClaire, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died, Monday, July 2, 2007, in his home, due to heart related complications. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2007, at the First Church of the Open Bible, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. John Helmuth. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his father, John W. Church of Belle Plaine; his wife, Tina; his children, Erick “Rick” Church of Cedar Rapids, Shana (Chad) Chadwick of Brooklyn Park, MN, and Sam and Sarah Church at home; a granddaughter, Chelsea Chadwick; two brothers, Chuck (Wanda) Church of Cedar Rapids and Bill Church of WI; a sister, Cindy (Kevin) Klein of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma; two sons, Scotty and Joel Church; and three brothers, John, Jr., Steve and an infant brother, Wayne.
Rob was born December 5, 1942, the son of John and Emma (Johnstone) Church, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He married Christina Wright on September 21, 1990, in LeClaire, Iowa. Rob worked for most of his life in car sales, including Cars by Ron and Bob and Rob, Lincoln Heights Auto, with business partner Jim Leonard, and East Towne Motors. He was also Used Car Manager of Balstead Ford, General Manager of 1st Avenue Chrysler Plymouth, Cedar Rapids, Dahl Ford and Green Chevrolet in the Quad Cities. Rob also was general manager of Cimino Distributing in Cedar Rapids.
A generous man, Rob had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed his Ford F-150 Lightening truck. He loved crossword puzzles, trivia, NASCAR, working in his yard and garden and most of all spending time with his family, especially his kids. He delighted in planning the family Christmas celebrations. Rob was a member of the El Kahir Shrine and Mt. Herman Lodge. He was a wonderful father, dearly loved by all and will be greatly missed.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Rob for Sam and Sarah.
