Robert Ray Potter, 92, of Cedar Rapids, formerly a resident at Garnett Place, Cedar Rapids, died at Windmill Manor, Coralville, on Saturday, November 23rd, 2013. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. December 7, 2013, at First Church of the Nazarene, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Timothy Carter. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Private Inurnment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, at a later date.
Survivors include his wife Berta, of 72 years; his children, Kathryn (Donald) Martin, Donald (Cindy) Potter, Karren (Darrell) Arvidson, Mike (Mary Lou) Potter, and Jerry (Mary) Potter; 20 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
Robert Ray Potter was born November 15, 1921, in Osgood, Missouri, the son of James and Mary Ann (Coberley) Potter. On May 23, 1941, he was united in marriage to Berta Meehan at the Banks of the Red River in Minnesota. Bob retired from the Anamosa Men’s State Reformatory in 1983, having worked there almost 24 years, leaving his mark in several areas.
Bob enjoyed many hours in his workshop, constructing projects of both metal and wood that were useful and beautiful. He also loved to go fishing.
