Robert Morarend
September 30, 1936 — October 18, 2012
Robert “Bob” Morarend, 76, of Quasqueton, (formally of Center Point) died Thursday, October 18, 2012, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, after a short courageous battle with stomach cancer. Visitation: 12-3 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Center Point, with memorial service at 3 p.m.
Survivors include children, Mark (Connie) Morarend of Cedar Rapids, Nancy (Doug) Klima of Center Point, Cathy (John) Fisher of Center Point and Karen Morarend-Hale of Phoenix Arizona; grandchildren, Melissa (Gregg) Hancock, Travis (Lisa) Morarend, Brandi (Adam) Davis, Michael (Lauren) Klima, Nic (Aubree) Klima, Jim (Erin) Fisher, Joe (Amanda) Fisher, Justin (Sue) Fisher, Crissie Fisher, Kendra and Allison Hale; 13 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Beulah Flatjord of Hiawatha and Pauline (Clarence) Hansel of Garber.
He was preceded by parents; and brother-in-law, Harold Flatjord.
Robert was born on September 30, 1936, in Colesburg, son of Ervin and Gladys (Funk) Morarend. He graduated from Colesburg High School in 1954. On May 1, 1955, he married Carol Eibey in Manchester, where after 29 years they divorced. Robert worked for Andrew’s Brothers Standard Oil in Manchester until moving his family to Center Point to own and operate Bob’s Standard Station from 1964-1979. He later was a Co-owner and machinist of Quamaco in Quasqueton, Iowa from 1979-1988. Later he sold Quamaco but continued to work as a machinist till retiring in 2005. Robert enjoyed going to the casino’s with his sisters, puzzles and loved his cats. He was a member of the Linn County Special Deputy Sheriff’s Department and a bowling league.
