Robert P. Mahan, 86, of 1108 20th Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Services: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 26, 2008, at St. Ludmila’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Tom McDermott. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 25, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, Burial: St. Mary’s Cemetery, Williamsburg, Iowa.
Survivors include his children, Robert (Anita) Mahan of Round Rock, Texas, Catherine Schad of Cedar Rapids, Dennis (Eva) Mahan of Las Vegas, Nevada, Timothy (Linda) Mahan of Sand Point, Idaho, Anthony Mahan of Cedar Rapids, Patricia (Richard) Schloss of Cedar Rapids and Pauletta Mentzer of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Gorsch of Cedar Rapids; and a friend, Marge Knapp of Ridgecrest, California.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ida; and seven brothers and sisters.
Robert was born February 12, 1922, in Williamsburg, the son of Edward and Viola (Kurth) Mahan. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart. He married Ida VanDee. She died in 2001. Robert was employed by Wilson Foods for 30 years.
Robert was a member of St. Ludmila’s Catholic Church and the church choir, Master Gardeners, Cedar Rapids Stamp Club and the Knights of Columbus.
