Robert J. Lenz Sr., DVM, 89, of 2925 1st Avenue, died Saturday, June 25, 2005, in NE Iowa Christian Retirement Community in Strawberry Point, following a long illness. Services: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, by the Rev. Mike Morgan. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. At his request, no evening visitation will be held. However, the family will greet friends after 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Survivors include a son, Robert Jr. and wife Linda of Strawberry Point; a daughter, Carolyn Lenz of Tucson, Arizona; a brother, Leonard of Hiawatha; a son-in-law, Dick Johnson of Hiawatha; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Flossie; a daughter, Belva Jean Johnson; two sisters; five brothers; and a great-grandchild.
Robert was born the son of Emil and Freda Koppin Lenz on September 17, 1915, in Newton, he married Flossie Wood on April 21, 1937, in King City, Missouri. "Doc? Lenz served in the CCC until his marriage and his entrance to college at Iowa State. He graduated with a degree in Veterinary Medicine in May of 1942.
"Doc? practiced veterinary medicine in the Marion and Mt. Vernon area from 1942 until he retired from practice in 1965. After retirement, he was a federal meat inspector at Wilson?s in Cedar Rapids until 1980.
"Doc? was a past member of the Iowa Veterinary Medicine Association, the Masons, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and First United Methodist Church in Marion.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to American Heart Association, Cedar Valley Humane Society or Marion Public Library, in Doc?s memory.
