Robert E. Kohl, 82, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Rev. William B. Harnish. Family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Military Honors by American Legion Post #727 will be held at the graveside.
Survivors include his children Gary Kohl, Tracy Clark, Kellie Schilling, Tracey Kohl Johnson, Terry Kohl Sadler, and Casey Kohl; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; siblings, Richard Kohl and Diane Smith; and numerous extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Beverly Kohl.
Robert was born on January 4, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of Earl and Evelyn (Smith) Kohl. He worked as a police officer for 27 years for the Cedar Rapids Police Department, and also at Rockwell Collins for 10 years. Robert served in the United States Navy from 1951-1955 during the Korean War. Robert married Beverly McClain in Cedar Rapids on July 25 1964. He enjoyed fishing and activities with his children and grandchildren.
