Robert R. Klima (a.k.a. Rocket), 81, died Thursday, February 12, 2015, at the Oldorf Hospice House, Hiawatha, surrounded by his family. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 16, 2015, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Coggon, Iowa with Father Wayne Dressler officiating. Family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, February 15, 2015, at Murdoch Funeral Home in Central City, Iowa, with a scripture reading at 3:30 p.m. Burial with military honors by Coggon American Legion Post #362 will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Coggon, Iowa.
Robert Raymond Klima was born December 16, 1933, in Center Point, Iowa, to his parents Ed and Mary (Barta) Klima. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. On September 26, 1964, he married Pamela Rae Rawson at St. John’s Catholic Church in Coggon. He worked in construction and was a retired member of Laborers Local #43. Robert was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Hartwick Huskys Ski Club and Lake Delhi Recreational Association. He also served 30 years on the Coggon city council and 25 years as a volunteer firefighter.
Robert is survived by his wife, Pam; his children, Rob (Robin) Klima of Lake Delhi, Stacey (Steve) Eggers of Windsor, Missouri, Mary (Jamie) Rundle of Coggon, Kara (Bob) Stokes of Marion, James Klima (Mandy Ward Koch) of Lake Delhi, Justin (Bethany) Klima of Marion, Jeremy (Chelsey) Klima of Coggon; his grandchildren, Laurissa, Danielle, Devin, Katie, Ryan, Dylan, Tyler, Taylor, T.J., Keaton, Kelsey, Carter, Kendall, Seanna, Izaac, Claire, and Abbie; his great-grandchildren, Brody, Lexie, Macie, Kolten and Madison; his sisters, Lee Mulvaney of Coggon and Bernadine Coleman of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leo, Mike and Bill; and two sisters, Kate Coleman and Gladys Woods.
Rocket enjoyed going on dates with Pam, waterskiing, drinking a beer with friends and piddling around. Rocket will always be remembered for being a proud and generous husband, dad, brother, grandfather and neighbor.
