Robert P. Johnston, 72, of 475 5th Ave., Marion, died at Winslow House Care Center, Marion, on Saturday, September 6, 2003, following a long illness.Services:
10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by the Rev. John Gossman. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 9) at the funeral home where a parish vigil service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, with military rites.
Survivors include his children, Debbie (Kevin) Wright of Marion, Teresa (Randy) Sheppard of Cedar Rapids, Robert Johnston Jr., Irvy Johnston, and Keith Johnston, all of Marion, and Brian Johnston of Kansas City, Missouri; a brother, Lawrence (Dorothy) Johnston of Toddville; nine grandchildren, Justin, Jared, Jake, Mandy, Rachel, Angie, Robert, Shelby and Tristan; and three great-grandchildren, Grace, Alexander and Alexis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Diana; four sisters, DeeDee, Emma, Eleanor and Dorothy; and a brother, Glen.
Robert was born the son of Robert W. and Etta Miller Johnston on March 31, 1931, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Robert was a graduate of Marion High School, Class of 1949. He served with the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On September 24, 1955, he married Dorothy Ryan. Robert was the owner/operator of Marion Auto Body for many years.
Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 298, Marion.
A memorial fund has been established by Robert?s family for Mercy Friends of Hospice, 701 10th St. SE, Cedar Rapids IA 52403.
