Robert L. Hopper

Robert L. "Bob? Hopper, 85, of 2460 McGowan Boulevard, Marion, died in his home, Monday, September 16, 2002, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 19, 2002, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion, by the Rev. Del Bear. Private burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Surviving are his wife of sixty-four years, Ruth; a son, Darwin D. Hopper and wife Jackie of Springville; a daughter, Debra Grinsell and husband Daniel of Cedar Rapids; and a twin sister, Rose Weininger of Cedar Rapids.
Also surviving are four granddaughters and eleven great-grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Donald Hopper and a great-granddaughter, Brittany.
Robert was born the son of William "Pete? and Mary "Mamie? Bemer Hopper on September 7, 1917, in Shellsburg, Iowa. On July 11, 1938, in Iowa City, he was united in marriage to Ruth Evelyn Hartz. Bob farmed for over fifty years and also worked as a carpenter. He was a 4-H leader and worked for several years as the Linn County Field Assessor.
