Robert G. Hewitt, Sr., 87, of 2004 J Street S.W., died Sunday morning, April 17, 2005, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Thomas McDermott. Burial: St. John?s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the funeral home.
Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Williamson and Debbie (Jeff) Merrell; a son, Mark (Peggy) Hewitt, all of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Mary (Roy) Myers of St. Petersburg, Florida; a sister-in-law, Maryann Porazil of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren, Rob, Carmen, Shelly, Kelly, Mike, Jamie, Jesse, Annie, Stacy and Tiffany; and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; a son, Robert G. Hewitt, Jr., a son-in-law, Ben Williamson; and a sister, Gwen Kolda.
Born October 21, 1917, in Nichols, Iowa, the son of Henry and Beatrice Hurlbut Hewitt, he married Helen Koutnik on July 22, 1939. She died in 1988. He was self-employed as an owner and operator in truck driving. Robert was a Cubs fan and enjoyed all sports, golfing, fishing, being outdoors and riding his Harley.
