Robert G. Hennessey, 81, of 100 31st Street South, died Thursday, January 27, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center, following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 31, 2005, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion with military honors. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a Knights of Columbus Rosary will begin at 2 p.m. and Vigil Service at 5 p.m. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include three sons, Dan, Joe and Jeff Hennessey, all of Marion; a daughter, Erin Hennessey of Marion; a sister, Mary Liz Valliere of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, John Hennessey and Bill Hennessey, both of Marion; and three grandchildren, Jason, Justin and Lesley Hennessey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rita; a son, Patric; and three brothers, Walt, Mike and Merle.
Robert was born July 11, 1923, the son of George and Elizabeth (Minnas) Hennessey in Langworthy, Iowa. On July 2, 1947, he married Rita M. Power at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She died May 26, 2002. Robert served with the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne in England and Germany during WWII. He was part-owner of Hennessey Brothers Construction for 45 years. Robert was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion who will provide military honors.
