Robert L. Haskell, 79, died Friday, July 18, 2008, at Northbrook Manor Care Center, Cedar Rapids, where he had been a resident since July 7, 2008. Memorial Service: 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Rev. John Albertson. The family will greet friends from 3:30 ?" 5:30 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Military Honors will be conducted by Marion Legion Post 298.

Survivors include his wife, Lois (Dye) Haskell, his daughters, Elaine Daughtery of Port Byron, Illinois, Deborah Robinson of Bellevue, Nebraska, Betty Usher of Bellevue, Nebraska and Roberta (Dean) Drahos of Winter Heaven, Florida; a step-daughter, Melinda Dye of Charlotte, Iowa, and a stepson, Keith Dye (Rhonda) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four grandchildren, Jeremy Usher, Darrell Daughtery, Jr., Katelyn Dye, Thomas Dye, and his beloved Australian Shepard, Lil Guy.

Also surviving are two brothers, Jack (June) of St. Cloud, Florida and Paul of Springville, Iowa; a sister, Marjorie of Burlington, Iowa and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Betty.

Robert was born March 3, 1929, the son of Jack William and Frances A. (Haugh) Haskell. He grew up on a farm near Burlington, where he developed his love of horses. Robert served in the U.S. Army, 7th Infantry Engineer Battalion, from 1951-1953 during the Korean Conflict. He moved to the Springville area in 1955 and worked at Rockwell Collins for 29 years as a repair operator on Line 6. Robert married Lois (Dye) Haskell on September on September 24, 1994. He was previously active in the Iowa Quarter Horse Racing Association, the Broken Bit Saddle Club and a member of the American Legion #298.

Bob will be lovingly remembered for his love of horses, fishing, boating, dancing, bright colored hats, fancy western shirts and country music.
