Robert G. Hampton Sr.
August 14, 1922 — November 10, 2006
Robert G. Hampton Sr., 84, of Robins, passed away Friday, November 10, 2006, at Mercy Hallmar in Cedar Rapids. Bob chose to be cremated and private family graveside services will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Mike Morgan officiating. The family will greet friends from 4 - 7 p.m. Monday (November 13, 2006,) at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Bette; his children, Robert Hampton II of Walker, Susan Burger of Cedar Rapids, Bill (Rhonda) Hampton of Cedar Rapids and Mary (Larry) Arbogast of Battle Creek, Michigan; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bonnie Duer of Arlington Heights, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bob was born at Central City, Iowa, on August 14, 1922, to Dean and Ida Dyrland Hampton. He was a 1941 graduate of Marion High School. Bob served as a pilot with the 5th U.S. Air Force with duty in the Pacific from 1942-1946. Bob married Bette Oxley on November 4, 1944, in Yuma, Arizona.
He was a lifelong farmer and also had been employed at Iowa Man and MNB Bank. Bob was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marion and the Farm Bureau.
The family is very grateful to all the friends and caregivers who have supported Bob during his illness. May joy and peace surround you all.
