Robert Grishaber, 78, of Walker, Iowa, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 7, 2016, in Weslaco, Texas. Memorial Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2016, at United Methodist Church, Walker, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, Iowa. Private burial will be at a later date in the Walker Cemetery, Walker, Iowa.
Robert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty of Walker; daughters, Janelle (Mike) Aberle of Walker and Jacinda (David) Canfield of Republic, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Amanda, Michelle, Rebecca, Jacob, Jena (Jake Jones), Lindsay, Chloe, Philip, and Ashton; one great-grandson, A.J.; brother, Jerry (Charlotte) Grishaber of Marion, Iowa; brother-in-law, William Nielsen of Marion, Iowa; and six nieces and nephews, Judy Grishaber, Valerie (Mike) Smith, Janet (Rich) Mashaw, Doug Nielsen, Karen (Tom) Boynton, and Julie (Rod) Quint.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Shirley Nielsen; and a niece, Kelly Grishaber.
Robert was born June 19, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Harvey and Mildred (Petersen) Grishaber. He graduated in 1958 from Jefferson High School, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Robert served honorably in the US Army where he served in Germany. On October 19, 1962, he was united in marriage to Betty Hemphill in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Robert owned the Skelly Station in Walker, then drove tanker for Linn Co-op. He then was a custodian for North Linn School District before retiring in 1998. The couple enjoyed traveling and spending their winters at Palm Shadows Park in Donna, Texas. Robert was an avid license plate collector and enjoyed going to flea markets. He was a former volunteer firefighter in Walker for many years and was a member of UMC of Walker.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made to the family to be distributed to Robert's favorite charities.
