Robert G. Evans, 83, of 345 Marion Boulevard, joined the Lord?s family, Friday, February 4, 2005, in Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home in Marion, by Rev. Beverly Thompson-Travis, Chaplain of St. Luke?s Hospice. Burial: Blodgett Cemetery, rural Central City. Friends may call Monday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife Evelyn; a son, Robert (Christy) Evans of Bloomington, Indiana; a daughter, Teresa "Teri? (Jim) Calvin of Surprise, Arizona.
Also surviving are a granddaughter, Melanie (Steve) Wallace of St. Petersburg, Florida; and two stepgrandchildren, Clifford Bakehorn and Meghan Bakehorn. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Caroline Evans.
Robert was born to Adam B. and Mignon A. (Grassfield) Evans on December 3, 1921, near Paris, Iowa. He graduated from Walker High School with the Class of 1939. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 271st Medium Maintenance Ordinance Co. in October 1942 and served until January 1946 in Europe and the Pacific. On March 17, 1946, at the Kiene Community Church in Buchanan County, he was united in marriage to Evelyn M. Leatherman.
Bob was a Standard Oil agent and jobber for over thirty years in the Garrison, LaPorte City and Gilbertville areas. He and Evelyn moved to Marion in 1983. He also was a Motor Fuel Inspector for the Iowa Department of Agriculture for nine years, retiring 1986. Bob was a member of United Methodist Church in Marion, VFW of Cedar Rapids, American Legion of La Porte City, I.O.O.F. of La Porte City and Masonic Lodge of La Porte City.
Memorials may be made in Bob?s memory to St. Luke?s Hospice or directed to the family to be used as a memorial to Blodgett Cemetery.
