Robert J. "Bob? Dostal, 57, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, March 13, 2004, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Charles Stevens of the Open Bible Church. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Mary; two sons, Bob (Renee) Dostal, Brette (Katie) Dostal, all of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Tonya Dostal and Dave Kahler of Cedar Rapids; a grandson, Justen Dostal; a brother, David J. (JoAn) Dostal of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Lois (Jerry) Sheriff of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews, including special niece, Sandra Shebetka of Swisher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Charlotte Wall; and his best friend, Jon Winger, who died serving his country in Vietnam.
Bob was born April 11, 1946, the son of David and Genevieve (Fottral) Dostal, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated in 1964 from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School where he was an honored member of the 1963 Jefferson High School State Championship Football Team. Bob also attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa. On October 19, 1968, he was united in marriage to Mary Flanagan at the Lovely Lane Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. For over 25 years, Bob worked at General Mills. He held a membership with the Moose Lodge #304 of Cedar Rapids. Bob was an avid Chicago Bears fan and loved to golf. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandson, Justen.
