Robert Henry Cooper, 86, of 1626 Hamilton St. SW, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, in Mercy Medical Center, after a short illness. Services: 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military rites.

Survivors include his wife, Zana; his children, Carol Knode of Marion, Barbara (Jim) Leonard of Cedar Rapids, Terry Capp of Cedar Rapids, Linda (LeRoy) Stewart of Cedar Rapids, Arch Cooper and fiancée Pat of Mount Vernon, Debbie (Matt) Kula of Cedar Rapids and Michael Cooper of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Marie (Milton) Weislogel of Longwood, Florida, a brother, Paul (Beverly) Cooper of Ft. Myers, Florida; a sister, Enid (Allan) Sloan of San Clemente, California; 26 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sharon Snyder; a son, Edward Cooper; a granddaughter, Dana Long and a grandson, Mark Snyder.

Robert was born March 10, 1917, in Cono Center, Iowa, the son of Robert Archibald and Clara Elizabeth (Fuessley) Cooper. He was married to Dorothy Gorman from 1936 to 1963. On February 14, 1964, he married Zana (Zuercher) Hill. He was a masonry contractor and owned and operated R. H. Cooper Masonry. Robert served in the Army in WWII and belonged to the 75th Division. Before WWII, Robert went to Alaska and worked on the Alcon Highway and built a boat. He ferried people across the lake in Alaska for fishing. He enjoyed woodworking and built a Frank Lloyd Wright house in Cedar Rapids in 1950. Through his work, he was involved with the local building and construction unions in Cedar Rapids. Robert loved arrowhead hunting, fishing and was an avid pool player. He also was an inventor and creator. Robert loved everyone and was a friend to all. He was a good dad, loving husband and was an all around common man.
