Robert Clark “Smokey”, 85, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on the evening of Monday, June 23, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial service 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2014, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Connie; children, Duane (Rhonda) Clark of Lenexa, Kansas, Kent (Carla) Clark of O’Fallon, Missouri, Vicki (Rick) Lowe of Overland Park, Kansas and Lori Clark of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Ben (Ashley) Clark and Kelsey Clark; and great grandson, Max.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Smokey was born on October 17, 1928, in Evanston, Illinois, son of Robert C. and Julie (Johnson) Clark. He graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College and then received his Masters from the University of Iowa. During his time in college he was an athlete. Smokey married Connie Cornick in Winfield, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951-1953. Smokey spent many years teaching and coaching at Prairie Schools. Smokey enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids, and his weekly coffee meetings with all his coaching buddies. He was a cubs fan and enjoyed going to sporting events and socializing at casinos.
