Robert Dale Burns

Robert D. Burns, 89, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa died, Monday, February 23, 2015, at Cottage Grove, Cedar Rapids. Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2015 at Sharon United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Rev. Kevin Moore. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Helen Burns of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sons, Steven (Valleri) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Robert (Jeri) of Urbana, Iowa, and Rex (Michelle) of Gilbert, Arizona; grandchildren, Shane, Jason, Jasmine, T.J., Daniel, Jacob, Ashley, Ali and Sara; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Harry, Isabelle, Margaret, Rex Roy II, Stona and Virginia.
Bob was born on August 14, 1925, in Lovilia, Iowa, son of Rex and Anna (Morgan) Burns. He graduated from Ottumwa High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and in the Pacific Theater. On April 7, 1947, he married Helen Brooks in Kansas City, Kansas. Bob worked for Rockwell Collins for 30 years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Sharon United Methodist Church and the Cedar Rapids VFW Post #788. Following retirement Bob and Helen traveled extensively throughout the world.
