Robert Nathan “Bob” Titler, 88, longtime resident of Alburnett, died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at ManorCare Health Services in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2008 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. George Youtzy and Allan Sloan with military honors. The family will greet friends on Thursday, March 20, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Virginia; son, Craig Titler (Wanda Silver) of Alburnett; daughter, Sue (Victor) Becker of Alburnett; three grandchildren, Dr. Sarah Titler of Iowa City, Nate (Robin) Titler of Anamosa, and Cara Jo (Justin) Dix of Mt. Vernon; and three great-grandchildren, Grace and Madison Titler, and Libby Dix.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Nicholas Becker; his sister, Helen Wassmer; and two brothers, Marvin and Gil Titler.
Bob was born January 8, 1920, the son of Nathan and Hester (Napier) Titler in rural Central City. He graduated from Alburnett High School in 1937. Bob served with the U.S. Army’s 14th Armored Division (The Liberators) during WWII, and had fought in the Battle of the Bulge. On April 28, 1946, he married Virginia Lois Sloan in Alburnett. Bob was a lifelong farmer, and had also worked at Collins Radio and Westside Mutual Insurance.

Bob was a member of the Alburnett United Methodist Church, the Alburnett Lion’s Club, and the Alburnett Volunteer Fire Department.

Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion.
