Robert Harlan “Bob” Pflughaupt, 76, a resident of the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, formerly of Central City, died Thursday, August 15, 2013, at the care center in Manchester. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, Central City, by Pastor Josh Hansen. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 19, 2013, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; his children, Kristi (Matt) Allen of Macksburg, IA, Kevin (Tammy) Pflughaupt of New Hampton, IA, Kathi (Marc) Kerscher of Central City, and Kendra (Gary) Greif of Central City; 12 grandchildren, Jason (Lindsey) Stanford of Adel, IA, Kelli (Ryan Gordon) Stanford of Grimes, Angie Rater of Winterset, Kara Pflughaupt of New Hampton, Kiley (Eric) Williams of Urbandale. Ryan, Tyler, and Kyle Oberhauser of Central City, Justin Kerscher of Central City, and Sarah and Rachel Greif of Central City; eleven great-grandchildren; and siblings, Dick (Karen) Pflughaupt of Central City, Jim (Carol) Pflughaupt of Central City, Linda (Shelby) Foss of Summerfield, Florida, Stanley Pflughaupt of Troy Mills, John (Cheryl) Pflughaupt of O’Fallon, MO, Donna (Steve) Brower of Summerfield, Florida, and Peter (Jeanne) Pflughaupt of Central City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandson, Aaron Greif.
Bob was born March 4, 1937, in rural Linn County, the son of Howard and Guelda (Starry) Pflughaupt. He graduated with the Central City High School Class of 1956. Bob married Mary Whiting on June 22, 1958, at First United Methodist Church, Central City. He spent some years farming in the Central City area before working for the Buchanan County Independence Co-op. He also drove the school bus for the Independence School District. Bob operated Bob’s Feed Outlet in Central City and upon his retirement, he was a custodian and school bus driver for Central City School District. Bob enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, and playing with his horses. He loved spending time with his family, especially taking his grandkids camping and fishing.
