Robert E. (Bob) Meyer, 68, of Cedar Rapids, passed away suddenly on Monday, October 18, 2010. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 22, 2010, at St. Ludmila’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids by Father Tom McDermott. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Friday at the church. Bob chose to be cremated.

Robert was born January 16, 1942, the son of Raymond and Josephine (McDonell) Meyer in Calmar, Iowa. He married Rosemary Lechtenberg at St. Aloysius Church in Calmar on August 10, 1963. Bob worked for the Goss Company for 35 years, leaving there in 2001.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary; his daughter, Vicki and her husband Jef Smith of Liberty, Missouri; his grandson, Kent Smith and his wife, Lesley of San Francisco, California, and his granddaughter, Kati Smith and her fiancé Joe Pirak of Liberty, Missouri.

Also surviving are three brothers, Charles (Kitty) of Calmar, David of Tipton and Kevin (Joyce) of Calmar.

Preceding him in death was his son, Terry; his parents, Ray and Josephine Meyer; and his father and mother-in-law, Walter and Rose Lechtenberg; and two nephews, Joel and Alan Meyer.

Bob had a great appreciation for the outdoors, especially doing his beloved fishing and hunting, puttering around in his little gardens in the back yard or just grabbing a good book to read out on the deck. And once in awhile he’d swear a black jack table was calling his name.

Bob and Rosemary went on many wonderful vacations liking most just to get off the beaten track to find something interesting to see or do. Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He also leaves his best buddy, Sammy, his little pooch who will dearly miss him.

Special thanks must go to Terry and Patty Gerlach and to Greg McGivern of the Cedar Rapids Police Department.

Please no flowers. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or to St. Ludmila’s Catholic Church.
