Robert W. “Bob” Hodges, 74, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, March 5, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital, of an episode of the heart. Services: 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Leonard Ranson. The family will greet friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Judy of 50 years; his children, Denise (Marc) Chesmore of Lisbon, Robert (Sandy) Hodges of Cedar Rapids, Kenneth (Ute) Hodges of Germany, Rochelle Benesh of Aurora, Colorado, Michelle “Miki” Bartlett of Cedar Rapids and Robin Suhr of Council Bluffs; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Jackie, Helen and Darlene; and a grandson, Mason Chesmore.
Bob was born April 27, 1935, the son of Hobert and Velma (Young) Hodges, in Iowa City, Iowa. He served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On June 10, 1960, Bob was united in marriage to Judith Anne Thompson in Savanna, Illinois. He worked for the city of Cedar Rapids as an arborist, retiring in 1996.
Bob was a member of Bass Masters and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 788. He enjoyed bowling and fishing. Bob was an awesome Dad and will be greatly missed.
