Robert J. Conrad, 77, of Manchester, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 13, 2006, at St. Luke?s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, following a short illness.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester by Rev. Harlan Kaden. Family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday and one hour before services Tuesday. Burial will be in the Forestville Cemetery, Dundee with military rites.
Robert was born September 29, 1928 the son of Emil J. and Lucy A. (Heid) Conrad in Dyersville, Iowa. He attended school at Manchester and Rock Prairie, north of Manchester. Robert entered the United States Army in 1950 serving in Korea. He spent eleven and a half months on the front line and received the rank of Corporal. Robert was discharged on January 17, 1953, earning a Combat Infantry Badge, United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars.
On November 7, 1953, Robert was united in marriage to Mary Lou Meader in the Methodist Parsonage at Manchester. The couple farmed together and Robert drove school bus for West Delaware Community Schools for 38 years.
Robert was a past-member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Dyersville and the Manchester VFW Post #6637. He loved to fish, hunt, and visit with everyone.
Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Conrad of Manchester; three sons, Terry (Latricia) Conrad of Dundee, Dennis (Jean) Conrad and Duane (Patty) Conrad, both of Manchester, and; and five grandchildren, Daniel, Samantha, Tina, Mitch and Shelley Conrad.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Lucy Conrad.
