Robert “Bob” Barta, 93, of Solon, Iowa, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Hallmark Care Center, Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Visitation: 1 – 4 p.m. Monday, May 28, 2018, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood, Cedar Rapids. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Bob was born May 25, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Adolf and Mary (Balik) Barta. He graduated from Wilson High School and then honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Bob married Audrey “Jean” Gardner in Cedar Rapids on April 7, 1951. He worked for U.S. West phone company as a lineman, then later in the stock department, retiring after nearly 40 years. Bob enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
Bob is survived by his children, Jeff (Doreen) Barta of Cedar Rapids and Nancy (Mark) Menefee of Prescott, Arizona; grandchildren, John Metz, Bradley Metz and Jami (Josh) Wingert; great-grandchildren, Andrew Wingert, Avery Wingert, Taylor Metz, and Sydney Metz; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean in 2013; and sister, Agnes Sova.
