Robert "Bob? J. Becker, 57, of 1826 2nd Street S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, in his home following a sudden illness. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a,m., Thursday, March 22, 2007, at St. Jude?s Catholic Church, by Father Brian Dellaert. The family will greet friends from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a KC Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., with a scripture service to follow and 10:15 to 11:00 a.m. at the church on Thursday. Burial: A St. Joseph?s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Connie; daughter, Renae and her fianc?, Jerry Case; his beloved grandson, Noah; sisters, Mary Lou (Greg) Lehner of Cedar Rapids, Becky (Nick) Demuth of Waverly, Edna (Mike) Kadlec of Cedar Rapids, Ruth Becker of Brussels, Belgium and Brenda Becker of Cedar Rapids; brothers, Russell (Tammy) Becker of Toddville, and Roger (Eva) Becker of Navarre, Florida. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews who thought a lot of him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul; and his grandparents.
Robert was born September 23, 1949, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Dolores (Schmidt) Becker. In 1967, he graduated from Jefferson High School and on December 3, 1988, he married Connie Hartzler at St. Jude?s Church in Cedar Rapids. He was a machinist for 35 years for Evergreen. Robert lived in Van Horne until 1961 and then moved to Cedar Rapids.
Robert played Santa Claus, loved kids and was a great man of courage, battling a serious illness for many years.
Robert was a member of Union Local #1024, of which he was the secretary, 3 degree Knights of Columbus #5544 and a charter member of St. Jude?s Catholic Church where he was a song leader for many years. He loved camping and cars, especially his red 1955 chevy, softball and monster trucks.
A memorial fund has been established in Robert?s memory at Dupaco Community Credit Union, 3131 Williams Blvd. S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404.
