Rick Lee Saylor, 53, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, left us to be with his daughter, Hannah, after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, December 20, 2016. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Service: 11 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2016, at the funeral home, conducted by Pastor Mark Thomas. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Per the family’s request, please wear camouflage or casual dress to the services.
Survivors include his wife, Rene Saylor; parents, Howard and Rosalie Saylor; children, Amanda (Zach) Gorman, Justice Saylor, Haylee Saylor and her boyfriend, Dee Pernicka, who was like a son to Rick; grandchildren, Zander, Zaiden, Ziler and Elliannah; sisters, Michelle and Wendy Saylor; nieces and nephews, Megan, Morgan, Lynnsey and Logan; great-nephews, Kinnick and Kyler; and his dogs, Daisy May and Maci Jo.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Fern Tudor and Woodrow Tudor; paternal grandparents, Paul and Betty Saylor; mother and father-in-law, Opal and Gilbert Jones; and his daughter, Hannah.
Rick was born on August 30, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of Howard and Rosalie (Tudor) Saylor. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1981 and attended Kirkwood Community College where he got a degree in Forestry. On July 3, 1994, Rick married Rene Jones. Rick worked for Door’s Inc. and volunteered with AmeriCorps, working with the Iowa DNR on the trail crew, working in many different state parks. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, mushrooming, camping and all outdoor activities. Rick especially loved spending time with his family, extended family and his many friends.
