Richard “Rich” Lee Woodward, 78, of Marion, died Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a brief illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, by Father David O’Connor. The family will greet guests from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 18, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Inurnment: St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Prairieburg, with military honors by American Legion Post #298 of Marion.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Betty (Holub) Woodward; daughter, Julee (Kevin) Taylor; son, Mike (Sharon) Woodward; three grandchildren, Josh (Amber) Taylor, Jared Taylor, and Jennifer (Shane Holderfield) Woodward; and four great-grandchildren, Colton and Case Taylor, and Adam and Katie Holderfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; three brothers; and grandson, Michael Woodward.
Richard was born September 15, 1935, in Anamosa, the son of Vern and Elizabeth (Marek) Woodward. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War. Rich drove a truck for Rockwell Collins for 40 years, until his retirement.
He was an avid sports fan and referred to as “Coach”. Rich especially enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
