Richard E. Starks, 85, formerly of Springville, died at his home in North Liberty Wednesday, February 9, 2005, of lung cancer. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at Springville United Methodist Church by Pastor Rustin Krapfl, Russell Starks and Wanda Krapfl. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion with military honors. Burial: Springville Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia; seven children, Virginia (Larry) Burkey of Rowley, Linda (Skip)Butler of Central City, Colorado, Wanda (Donald) Krapfl of Cedar Rapids, Edwin Starks of Cedar Rapids, Ethel Parcell of North Liberty, Richard J. Starks of Cedar Rapids and Russell (Lori) Starks of Ely; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Starks; and two nephews.

Richard was born June 12, 1919, the son of Mose and Sadie (Snyder) Starks in Monticello. On February 6, 1946, he married Virginia Miner in Lancaster, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force.

Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post No. 331 of Springville.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Richard?s memory.
