Richard Lee “Dick” Shaffer, 87, of Central City, died Friday, January 9, 2015, at Living Center West, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, January 12, 2015, also at the funeral home in Central City. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Cathleen; three sons, Douglas (Janell) Shaffer of Cedar Rapids, Dennis (Patty) Shaffer of Alburnett, and David (Deanna) Shaffer of Coggon; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Staci, Jessica, Angie, Emily, Dexter, and Dylan; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Dean Shaffer.
Richard was born on March 28, 1927, in rural Central City to Cledith and Lilith (Wright) Shaffer. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. On December 28, 1947, he married Cathleen Powell in Walker. Richard was involved in agriculture until 1972, when he went into the real estate business.
