Richard C. Russell, "Dick?, 87, a resident of Cherry Ridge Assisted Living Center in Mt. Vernon and longtime resident of Mt. Vernon and Prairieburg, died Sunday, January 9, 2005, at Hallmark Care Center in Mt. Vernon, following a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 2005, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg by Father David Ambrosy and Father Wayne Droessler. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Rosary will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a vigil service to follow. Burial: St. Joseph?s Cemetery in Prairieburg.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; six sons, Dennis (Patsy) Russell of Monticello, Ralph (Kathy) Russell of Cedar Rapids, Maurice (Mardi) Russell of Panora, Norman (Carol) Russell of Cedar Rapids, John (Cindy) Russell of Ames and David (Lori) Russell of Ankeny; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Russell of Vine Grove, Kentucky; fourteen grandchildren, Carl, Eric, Jason, Cathy, Jon, Katie, Jill, Tana, Mary Beth, Nathan, Garrett, Elliott, Jenna and Kelsey; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert; a sister, Dorothy; and two grandsons, Mark and Jared.
Dick was born March 8, 1917, the son of Clarence G. and Eleanore A. (Kleineck) Russell in rural Linn County. He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1934. On June 10, 1943, he married Mary Amelia Pospisil at St. John?s Catholic Church in Lisbon. He was a long time farmer in the Mt. Vernon and Prairieburg areas. Dick was a member of 4th Degree Knights of Columbus of Bowen General Assembly #0269.
Dick was dedicated to what was entrusted to him. He greatly loved his family and the land.
A memorial fund has been established in Dick?s memory.
