Richard Neil "Neil" Moore
December 20, 1919 — February 27, 2009
Richard “Neil” Moore, 89, of 2907 Outlook Drive, S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, February 27, 2009, in Manor Care Health Services, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby; children, Jeanette (Michael) Hubbard of Scappoose, Oregon, Ronald (Phyllis) O’Brien of Center Point and Donnie White and Cindy Williams both of Texas; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Roger O’Brien; grandson, Daniel O’Brien; and sisters, Vivian, Iona and Pauline.
Born December 20, 1919, in Iowa City, Neil was a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On November 7, 1969, he was united in marriage to Ruby Buck in Rock Island, Illinois. For 41 years Neil worked for the Milwaukee Railroad at the Penick & Ford location.
Neil was an avid lover of western movies and books. He was a gruff man with a generous and soft heart. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 4080 1st Avenue N.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402 in Neil’s memory.
