Richard Allen Merritt, 55, of Walker, died Wednesday, February 26, 2003, at University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics, Iowa City, following complications from lymphoma. Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2003, at Walker United Methodist Church, Walker, by Pastor David Siler. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker. Burial: Walker Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Julie; a son, Holden; his parents, Paul and Lorraine Merritt; a brother, Stewart (Wendy) Merritt, all of Walker; and his dog, Toto.
Richard was born December 12, 1947, the son of Paul and Lorraine Simanek Merritt, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On August 8, 1981, he was united in marriage to Julie Doyl in Troy Mills, Iowa. A graduate from U.N.I., Richard worked for Cargill. Richard enjoyed Tae-Kwon-Do with his son, Holden. He loved fishing in Minnesota, golfing, Cubs Games and especially being with his family.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Richard.
