Richard A. McLaughlin, 85, passed away Monday, November 7, 2016, at ManorCare Health Services in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, conducted by Father David O’Connor. The family will greet friends one hour prior to Mass at the church. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Richard is survived by his children, Cathy (Jim) McCreary of O’Fallon, Illinois, Mike (Stephanie) McLaughlin of Solon, Carol (John) Lawlis of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Mary (Kevin) Kahl of Granger, Indiana, and John (Diana) McLaughlin of Marion; 17 grandchildren; and a brother, Jim McLaughlin of New Jersey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; a granddaughter, Elizabeth; and two brothers, Donald and George.
Dick was born August 15, 1931, in New York, New York, the son of John and Martha (Dietz) McLaughlin. He graduated from Garden City High School in Garden City, New York. He then attended Villanova University before entering the United States Air Force. Dick later received his bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering and business from the University of Colorado. He then received his MBA from the University of Iowa. Dick married Margaret Cheney and she passed away in 2013. He was employed at Rockwell Collins for 31 years. Dick was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed golfing and gardening. Dick especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
