Richard Lanning, 81, of Alburnett, passed away August 17, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2015, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion conducted by Reverend Greg Williamson. Friends may visit an hour prior to the service at the church. Graveside Service: 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2015, at Lafayette Cemetery. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Marion.
Richard is survived by his wife Shirley of Alburnett; his children, Lynne (Brian) Westphal of Iowa City, Ron Lanning of Marion, and Brenda (Jeff) Krause of Palo; 6 grandchildren, Breanna, Hillary, Jessica, Katie, Jacob, and Brooklyn; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Harold (Gerry) Lanning of Center Point; sister, Betty Ann (Don) Hein of Cedar Rapids; and sister-in-law, Neva Lanning of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter, Arianna; a brother, LaVern, and a sister, Juanita.
Richard was born May 2, 1934, to Ernest and Lorraine (Evans) Lanning in Linn County. On November 27, 1954, he married Shirley (Snodgrass) at Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids. He was employed at Rockwell Collins for 40 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion.
