Richard D. "Dick? Jones, 67, of 1404 Linmar Drive NE, Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, February 22, 2004, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness. Services: 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Barb Furman of Mission of Hope Church, Cedar Rapids and Pastor Barry Mayfield of Parkway Baptist Church, Knoxville, Tennessee. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m., Tuesday, February 24, 2004, at the funeral home. Private Burial: Linwood Cemetery.

Survivors include his best friend and partner, Suzanne Hawley; his mother, Lavona Jones; his children, Judy and Lyle Karsten of Grand Island, Nebraska, Sherry and Doug Drury of Cedar Rapids, Steven R. Jones of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Randall and Barbara Jones of Stillwater, Minnesota. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Adam R. and Daniel A. Karsten, David R., Brian J. and Elizabeth L. Drury, Nicholas S., Matthew S. and Lucas S. Jones, Patrick A., Brody A. and McKenzie L. Jones; one great-grandson, Brenden J. Drury; a sister, Janice Schwinefus of Ostrander, Minnesota; two nephews and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his father; and his wife, Harriett.

Dick was born July 23, 1936, the son of Donald M. and Lavona A. (Power) Jones in Waterloo, Iowa. He married Harriett Wills on July 27, 1953. She died on January 23, 1977. Dick was a retired licensed public accountant. For 46 years, he owned and operated R.D. ?Dick? Jones Accounting. He was a member of The Accountants Association of Iowa and served as President from 1969-1970. For 27 years, Dick was a member of the National Society of Public Accountants (NSPA) and served as State Director for Iowa. In addition, he was a member of the NSPA Rules and Insurance Committees. He held a charter membership to the Iowa Society of Accounting Practitioners and served as their president from 1982-1983. Dick was past President of the National Association of Enrolled Agents and was on the Board of Accountancy for the State of Iowa from 1975-1984. Dick was chosen "Boss Of The Year? in 1977. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge, Consistory, El Kahir Shrine, and Royal Order of Jesters. Dick held a private pilot license, enjoyed fishing and sports of all kinds.
